 "Look no Further" 2009-08-05
By Jo Norbet (UK)
I have been using the Netbook regularly since I purchased it and having downloaded the necessary software it is now providing everything I need. It is compact, the keyboard design is very helpful, raised individual keys and functions like a small laptop with all the benefits of being able to transport it easily in my rucksack. Have downloaded a massive I tunes library and it is still functioning very effectively. I have nothing but praise for this netbook.

I am a retired IT and I have always been involved in computing and this product is the best machine I have ever used ..It is well recommended ..as an expert in this field I can easily say it is probably the most realiable and powerful netbook you can buy and the battery life is amazing a huge hard drive 250GB and it is even better now as I have upgraded to Windows7 ultimate and an extra 1GB ..great machine .

 "What a surprise" 2009-12-19
By P. Leong (UK)
I was appalled by the performance of the speaker, very tiny, like the size of a 10p coin and situated under the unit. It sounded awful and very cheap. I would think twice before I go for a brand name like Toshiba! The other features are ok but for that price why not include the Windows 7 Home instead of the Starter Edition? I tried it with Ultimate and it runs just as fast.

 "Not impressed" 2009-12-07
By Tommy (Sheffield)
I have got this for about a week now but I am going to return it back to amazon:

The Look: spectacular, however the giant battery makes it look stupid.

Battery Life: Given the unreasonably large size it lasts ages

Keyboard: It takes some time to get used to, but if you need to type essays and stuff I don't recommend it as it frequently fail to sense the space button.

Internet: I use it mainly to browse normal websites such as facebook and news, however if you try to open more than 2 tabs in a page then it takes more than 15 seconds for you to open another tab inside the internet explorer.

Movie: It's the worst thing about this netbook, it couldn't run films smoothly, and the image would often hold for seconds while the sound continues.

Screen: for some reason if you turn it on for more than 5 hours sometimes the screen image rotate like a merry-go-round

Updates: It wouldn't let you shut down the computer until it finishes all the "updates" which takes 5 to 20 minutes, and "updates occur as frequently as once every 3 days.

Speaker: not loud enough, however once you plug an external speaker 3% volume is sufficient as more than 8% is excessively loud.

Others: If the netbook decides that it doesn't want to open a particular programme it will pretend to load for 5 seconds but does not give you any response thereafter as if you have never clicked it.

Webcam: low quality

Antivirus: whenever you download an exe it automatically change the file name to something like 575754 in which you cannot open, unless you click the accept button prompted by MacAfee 30 seconds later due to slow computer response.

Free MS Office: It gives you 60 days trial however of you don't buy the full license immediately then do expect a delay of "configuration" which takes 2 minutes every time.

 "Good Notebook" 2009-11-01
By Mr. J. C. H. Wernham (UK)
I only received this notebook a week ago but here are my first impressions;

(+) Positives

Lightweight, Solid build and design

Good sized tactile keyboard and track pad

Easy connect, speedy Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity

Almost silent operation except under intensive processing

Good battery life - particulary when set to eco mode (dims the screen and reduces processing power)

Decent webcam

(-) Negatives

The 2GB RAM upgrade is almost certainly required for windows 7

This notebook is shipping with Windows 7 starter edition - this has some minor drawbacks (read up on these)

Toshiba load it up with a load of superflous and annoying software which kills the CPU/RAM on startup. Easy to disable from startup or uninstall though

"Not bad, but poor keyboard" 2009-12-07
By D. Hoskins (Oxford UK)
Nice small size and pretty good all round, but the keyboard is awful, not just in size, more that the keys are very un-responsive. You have to make sure every key is pushed down fully, and even then things are missed. If you type using more than two fingers, this is not the netbook for you.

 "Netbook" 2009-11-06
By David (Northumberland)
Hi,

I bought this unit for my partner as she was starting a new job and did not want to carry round a full size laptop.

It worked straight from the bag and is quite fast the graphics are good and it accepts new programs very easily. I also purchased an optical drive to go with it. I have no problem at all in recommending this product to anyone as an alternative to the laptop.

 "A practical netbook" 2009-10-02
By Dr G (UK)
The is a very serviceable netbook with the essential features of a laptop. The screen quality is excellent, and I was surprised that the integral camera is so good and easily to use. It runs MS Office more than adequately and the memory is sufficient to support PowerPoint presentations. Easy connection to the internet and handles applications such as BBC iPlayer without problems. It is rather slow to boot up and the grey letters on they keys are hard to see in reducing lighting (it hard to imagine that someone thought this was a good idea). Overall, a no frills netbook that does the job.

 "Mini Me PC" 2009-07-24
By Andy MC (London, UK)
Having now had the thing for one month I though it's time to write a review. I would say this is a great buy if you want a truly very small and portable laptop, the build quality is excellent and the battery life is ok (2 to 3 hours) however what sets it apart is the size. It fits in a case designed for the standard 7" eeepc 701 which gives an idea of the size of the thing (i.e about the same as other 7" netbooks but with a 8.9 inch screen).

Of course realistically with a pc of this small size so is the keyboard, however I have had found it fine for what I use the PC for i.e occasional surfing and itunes while out and about. Of note is the quality of the screen which is super clear and I belive 8.9 gives a great trade of between usability and small size and portability which is what a true nebook should have.

Along with other reviews I have to agree that using the toshiba in poor light is a bit tricky due to the grey keyboard lettering, although I would say this is just an annoyance and should not put you of buying to much.

 "Toshiba NB200" 2009-12-13
By Mr. A. Barr (North Lincolnshire)
I love this netbook.

Having read some of the reviews posted, I ordered the 2GB memory upgrade, however the netbook arrived several days before the memory, and I must confess I was pleasantly surprised regarding the performance with the standard 1GB memory which shipped with the computer.

I have now installed the 2GB memory upgrade, and must say that I am delighted with this small but perfectly formed package.

I had this netbook up and running within 2 hours of taking it from the box. Windows install, fully networked wirelessly with 4 other computers, hooked up to my BT Homehub, and browsing the net, MS office 2007 installed, virus software registered and updated, Windows XP updates installed, 3 network printers installed and and my stand alone Canon MP640 wireless all in one printer/scanner/fax installed, and printing.

Did I mention that I have been transferring my music, and documents, whilst browsing the net for the past 7 hours or so and still have 20% battery left !

Don't get me wrong, I have no illusions that anything more would be pushing this somewhat, but I plan to use this fantastic little piece of kit exactly as intended - as a NETBOOK.

I must admit, as an avid digital photographer, I missed having my beloved Photoshop available, but realising how resource hungry this software can be, I opted for the open source , FREE equivalent, Gimp 2.6, and am even more delighted that I now have an incredibly versatile machine at my fingertips 24/7. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Photoshop won't run, but I know form experience that this software (PS CS3) can be very memory intensive and can be very demanding on even the highest spec machines. I simply elected not to attempt an install on this mini computer)

I still run a 17" laptop, as well as a high performance PC, but am very impressed with the overall functionality of this great little piece of kit. Hugely portable, quick, intuitive, and no problems with keyboard or touchpad. Bear in mind that I am 6'1" with hands like shovels.

I agree with some of the comments regarding sensitivity of the touchpad, however easily solved ny switching off the "tapping" function of the touchpad.

No hesitation in recommending this little machine, as a perfectly capable mini computer. No designs on using this as a gaming machine, but why would you want to with a 10" screen ?

"A netbook more equal than others" 2009-11-11
By L. R. Richardson (Scotland)
All netbooks are essentially the same in specification, but the long battery life, cute styling, and unusual keyboard make the Toshiba stand out from the pack.

I bought this because I wanted a laptop that was actually portable, and this definitely is. It's so small and light I can stick it in my purse and bring it with me to a coffeeshop or to work. It has a stylish look to it as well. I love that the power button is in the middle of the hinge of the computer. The white and silver looks nice and the chicklet keyboard makes satisfying clicks as you type. The most annoying thing I've found about the netbook is that because the keyboard is so small and the mousepad so sensitive, that at least once every ten minutes I accidentally hit the pad while I'm typing and it'll move the text to wherever the cursor is on the screen. Annoying! Also, keep in mind that when the netbook is folded up, the battery pack sticks out of the back. I bought a laptop bag for a netbook that I thought would easily fit, but because of the battery it didn't and I had to return it.

The battery life is what really makes this netbook excellent. It has over six hours of battery life so you can actually bring it somewhere and not have to worry about plugging it in after a couple of hours. Its processor won't win any speed contests, but it's quick enough for me to surf the internet and write. It does what I need it to do, but I'd hesitate to recommend it to people looking to do gaming or anything too heavy on it. All in all, I'm quite pleased with it and have zero major complaints.

 "Used by student/commuter" 2009-10-31
By J. P. Dawson (Cowes, UK)
I bought the NB200 a month or so ago to use on campus and while commuting/travelling, so far it has completed the basic tasks I ask of it very well, and, touch-wood, I've had no problems. It seems fast enough for for the work I do, and the wireless seems to pick up a connection very quickley. Easy to set-up and with impressive build quality I'd recommend the little Toshiba to anyone. The only downside is the larger battery pack that seems to be quite weighty, however, the battery's long-life means I don't have to carry the A/C adapter with me anyway. Whether the fact that my mum now wants one is a positive or not I'll leave you to decide.

"Perfect for traveling and meetings" 2009-10-20
By Cenesdelavega (Granada, Spain)
I bought this because my primary laptop breaks my shoulders when I'm traveling, plus has a very lame battery life. This one is perfect, light, well made, and really long battery life. I added 2GB memory right away, and I can run all my programs, albeit somewhat more slowly than my main laptop. Still, it will run anything at a reasonable speed, fine if you are on a long plane flight.

Looks good and is unobstrusive at meetings.

Keyboard is fine, almost the same size as my big laptop, except the position of Home and End is weird. Touchpad is squirrley, I'm going to call Toshiba about that.

 "No complaints" 2009-12-21
By DG (Scotland)
Don't expect any 10" screen to replace a 17" one for serious work but I've put together a Powerpoint presentation with this. As for being portable, turning up at different locations to do anything a big one can do, eg overhead projector, communication, this is the business. It seems to be no accident that Toshiba features largely in Amazon's 4 star & above reviews of laptops. I put in the well reviewed Kingston 2Gb memory (see it's gone up a fiver since)and it did seem to make it a bit snappier.

I know absolutely nothing about the technicalities of this notebook, but......

It's neat, easy to use and fits easily in a reasonable size handbag!

Mine is actually a NB200 - 11L, but all the specifiasctions seem to be the same as this one.

I have also got a neoprene skin to protect mine, which I would advise!

This is just wonderful, I purchased it 6 months ago, not a single snag, quick, and absolute pleasure to use. Honestly, I have stopped using my laptop and PC eversince I bought this. I wonder how did they manage to fit all those goodies in such a small space. The battery life is wonderful, lasts ages and also charges pretty quickly. I am totally hooked to it. No fault to report so far.....

 "Toshiba Netbook" 2009-09-05
By C. F. Nisbet (England)
A well-made piece of good quality engineering. The keyboard is much better than earlier models and the product is well-priced to capture market share. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a netbook. Purchase of the RAM add-on is essential. An external DVD USB player/recorder is only needed if you do not have another computer in the house or office. Windows XP as the operating system is much better than Vista; my only criticism is that Windows XP Pro would have been a better choice, allowing logon to office networks without the purchase of a further licence.
